Was there a crazier kid in school than Gary?......Jim Olmstead was right on his heals..... I still remember very vividly the time Gary, Lester, Jim and I climbed the water tank on Mt.Solo.....I was the first to open the hatch and climbed down inside, you could hear this swirling sound just below your feet and before they locked me in there I could tell that the water level was rising.......punks! :)
When I heard of Garys passing and then that of Jim's just a few years ago my heart saddened, my eyes teared and I tried to remember the good times.
I was very sad to hear of Gary's passing. Lots of fun living across the street from his family and dating Ken we spent alot of time together. great family, fond memories. He was in Alaska when we drove up there to live and have some great memories. So sad! Jackie Tyler Erickson
Hi Everyone-Final found a death date for Gary. Dec 26-1999. Gary was a good friend. We got in lots of trouble together. It,s so sad to loose a friend. I,m sure he is raising Hell in Heaven.
The first thing I remember about Gary was the incredible amount of energy he had. He could do handstand-pushups and walk on his hands. We used to bet unsuspecting people that Gary could walk on his hands up and down a set of stairs or up and over a picnic table or what ever was handy. It was a quick way to pick up some beer money. I remember one time a bunch of us were on Highway 101 south of Seaside, you know where there is about a four hundred-foot monolith between the highway and the ocean, while the ocean itself seems to be another thousand feet below the road. Gary and I climbed to the top of it and Gary started doing handstands. The cars just stopped in the middle of the Highway and started taking photos, It was great - what a traffic jam! Gary was a good friend. I have the honor of being his daughter Natalie’s Godfather. I was talking to Lois the other day and she told me something that made me feel good and should make us all feel good: that when she thinks of Gary she thinks of us all (the gang).
Gary used to love to torment Lester so bad, until Lester would snap and then the "fight was on". Was actually a wrestling match, I'll save Lester the embarrasment of saying who usually won. Unfortunately one of these wrestling matches happened in the back of my van....while I was driving...felt like a tornado was ripping through my van. I don't think a lot of people knew that before the Norris family moved here from Oregon, Gary was quite the wrestler, if I'm not mistaken he was highly ranked in Oregon for his weight division. My other fav, was us three brain surgeons getting Lesters' ford pinto stuck in the sand out at the tip of willow grove road, having to call his brother Ken to come and pull us out..at 3:oo AM ... My thoughts and prayers go out to his Family, Gary may be gone in body, but one thing for sure, the ones who really knew him will never forget him. R.I.P. Gary
